Who I Wanna Be This Halloween: Tedy Bruschi. To quote the Boston Globe, "how many times does a star player return to a championship football team after suffering a stroke?". Not only did he come back, he started, and made a difference in the game, won by the Pats, 21-16. Now if only corner Duane Starks can break a leg or something.
Our Favorite Redhead: What self-respecting, semi-intelligent, well-read, red-blooded American male wouldn't do Maureen Dowd? No woman should be this complete. Even Bush 41 still has a crush on her.
“I always subscribed to the Carole Lombard philosophy: ‘I live by a man’s code, designed to fit a man’s world, yet at the same time I never forget that a woman’s first job is to choose the right shade of lipstick.’ ”
Hardly the sort of philosophy you'd expect coming from Bush 43's biggest enemy in print. Not that she was light on Clinton either, as I recall:
Dowd is assumed by most people to be a Democrat. But a certain brand of lefty will never forgive her for her coverage of the Clinton impeachment, the work that won her a Pulitzer. “A lot of people thought, Well, Maureen Dowd should be a liberal columnist and sticking up for our side,” says Mike McCurry. “They thought that she was aiding and abetting Ken Starr and the Republican hate machine, and in reality she was part of this kind of Irish-Catholic mafia that included Chris Matthews and Mike Kelly that thought Clinton’s sins were beyond the pale.”
Shouldn't all journalists be like Maureen Dowd, really? Shouldn't all journalists want to be like Maureen Dowd?
Friday Night Crack: That's what Adult Swim should call its Friday Night Fix website feature, whereby you can watch a handful of new and classic toons streamed and in their entirety, from 11p-5a ET. This ranks up there as one of the best things ever on the interwebs. As a result, I got to see Squidbillies two days early, and got to sleep last night at a decent hour. Also caught the first episode of Lucy, Daughter of the Devil, done by Loren Bouchard, the same dude who gave us the delightful Home Movies, but instead of Squiggleivision, it's done totally CGI. It's not totally on-demand, it's appointment on-demand, which in my view, is an even more powerful model. The viewer gets what they want, you control when you give it to them. I didn't see a single ad in any of the streams, but even if that changes, I'd tolerate it.
Halloween Choonage: I don't remember where I found this (Copy, Right? I think). But this is scary. Someone called P.J. Pooterhoots doing the Hall & Oates favorite, "I Can't Go For That". Be afraid. It was either this, or TATU's version of the Smiths' "How Soon Is Now". You don't wanna hear that either.
OMG! I may kick Kara's ass if she knew about the Friday night fix...
I don't have cable. I miss my cartoons. Watching certain shows were my equivalant of a country housewife watching her shows....
At this point I'll take anything...If I manage to stay up til 11...I'm hella tired...I'll be doing the cartoon happy dance.
