'Choons: Only up for a week. And then they're history. Like Katie Holmes' virginity.
Something New: Ya ever listen to a band non-stop for like six months and then want nothing to do with them for a year? That's how I was with Coldplay. Now I want them back, maybe not in as heavy doses as before. (There are worse addictions, yes?). Chris and Co., it's good to have you back. X&Y is out June 7, or perhaps sooner (nudge nudge). Travel at the "Speed of Sound", Mr. Music, will you play?
Something Old: While watching VH-1 last weekend, caught a segment of I Love the 80's with everybody just raving about Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam (sometimes with Full Force). Gotta say, back in the day, LL&CJ w/FF wasn't my 2-liter of Jolt, or if you will, my bottle of New York Seltzer. Funny how your tastes change over time. In this episode, "everybody" included Juliette Lewis, who would have been all of, um, 12 when "I Wonder If I Take You Home" boomed from the ghetto blaster (and boy, does that phrase seem awkward now!)
Something Different: After watching Sideways last weekend, I was reminded of the fine body of work (and fine body) of Virginia Madsen, who I always would confuse with Madeleine Stowe, because in Electric Dreams, her character was called Madeline. (Shut it, you've done it too.) As a Commodore 64 enthusiast (did not have enough pride to call myself a C64 "geek"), I loved this movie. I'm sure someone's thought about remaking it, but it wouldn't be worth watching. From the highly underrated soundtrack, Human League singer/fashion icon Phil Oakey, teaming up with keyboard wiz Giorgio Moroder on the title track. On that same soundtrack, you'll find "Love Is Love" (sorry, no link), the best Culture Club song you've never heard of.
Something to Do: Another wordplay project. Work the following phrase into a public conversation this weekend:
"If you have a problem and no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire them. Here's their number..."
Then see who turns around.
Something to Eat: This weekend, I will mostly be eating Reed's Ginger Ice Cream, hopefully the green tea variety.
Something to Drink: "Vanessa, make me a Blinker, tall, extra syrupy. Much like yourself."
Something to Watch: I'm told that if you a) go in with low expectations, b) aren't all that into sci-fi, or c) understand that it's what the late author would have wanted, you'll really enjoy The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The rest of you sad, unforgiving lot can wait for Episode Three.
Something to Wear: Yes, I shall wear the green shirt this weekend.
Something to Get Out of Storage: The Commodore 64.
